Alex Beringer, Professor of English, received his B.A. at the University of Wisconsin and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining the UM faculty, he was a lecturer at the University of Michigan.
His specialties include nineteenth century American literature, visual culture, and comics/graphic narratives.
Dr. Beringer has held fellowships with the University of Cambridge and the American Antiquarian Society. His work has appeared in American Literature, Arizona Quarterly, American Periodicals, and elsewhere. He is the author of Lost Literacies: Experiments in the Nineteenth Century US Comic Strip (2024).
